As part of a service ticket, we may ask you to remove or replace the amplifier assembly of your BASSBOSS MK3 loudspeaker. The amplifier assembly is the part of the loudspeaker that contains the metal heatsink on the back of the speaker, usually containing the input board, DSP, and amplifier module. It looks like this:
What you need to remove the amplifier assembly:
- 3mm Allen/Hex Key (Can be a hand tool or a bit for an impact)
- Power Cable (optional)
Steps to Remove a MK3 Amplifier Assembly
1. Place the cabinet on its front, so the grille is facing down and the heatsink is facing up. This will make removing the assembly much easier.
2. Remove the screws around the edge of the heatsink using a 3mm Allen (Hex) tool, shown below (note that your heatsink may look slightly different; Kraken and Krakatoa heatsinks are square and have 16 screws, double driver amps have 10 screws and are longer)
3. Gently lift the heatsink from the speaker cabinet. Be aware that the heatsink is designed to create a seal with the cabinet so it will require a bit of strength (If you are having trouble getting the heatsink off the cabinet, you can insert the True1 power connector and lock in in place. Applying upward force to the cable will give you a bit of leverage to get the heatsink out)
4. As you lift the heatsink, disconnect the wiring harness(es) by pressing on the white release tab and pulling the connector away from the module. The wiring harness connects the amplifier module to the driver(s), and can be located behind the ribbon wire. If your loudspeaker has more than one wiring harness, take note of which harness went to each connection (you can always take a picture to help you remember where to insert them in the future).
Steps to Install a MK3 Amplifier Assembly
1. Place the cabinet on its front so the driver/grille is on the ground and the space where the slots in is facing up (this will make installing the heatsink much easier).
2. Attach the wiring harness(es) back to the amplifier, being sure it each clicks into place, by aligning the tab. There is only one direction it can lock into.
3. Gently place the amplifier assembly back into the cabinet so the screw holes of the assembly line up with those in the cabinet
4. Use a 3mm Allen/Hex tool to reattach the amplifier screws back to the cabinet. Make sure they are fairly tight so they do not rattle out during operation!
