Sublim8 FAQ

Sublim8 FAQ

  1. Does the Sublim8 come with covers and a cart?
    1. Yes, the Sublim8 includes 3x transport covers (one for the sub, one for the spacer, and one for the top section) and a wheel cart for transporting.  The cover features velcro to keep the top and spacer from falling off when rolling the system
  2. Does the Sublim8 come in white?
    1. Yes, you can get the Sublim8 in black or white.
  3. How tall is the Sublim8 when assembled?
    1. With the included spacer, the Sublim8 is just under 9' tall (8 feet, 10 inches to be exact).  We are also developing a shorter spacer that will make the overall height around 7' (with two of the shorter spacers, the overall height can also be made 8')
  4. How much does the Sublim8 weigh?
    1. The total Sublim8 weight is 173lbs: the sub weighs 115lbs, the top weighs  38lbs, and the spacer weighs 20 lbs.
  5. How big is the Sublim8 when on the cart?
    1. The dimensions of the sublim8 are 34" x 37" x 25.75" (86.36 x 93.98 x 65.41 cm) when on the cart for transport.
  6. Do I have to assemble the Sublim8 horizontally and tip into position?  (i.e. can I assemble the Sublim8 vertically?)
    1. While we recommend assembling the Sublim8 horizontally and tilting it into position (as the overall height of the unit allows maximum torque to be applied, minimizing the effort needed to assemble the unit), you can assemble the Sublim8 vertically as well.  This works in scenarios where you do not have the space to assemble the unit horizontally.  You can stand the sub up, place the spacer on and slide it in, and then place the top section in and slide it in, or you can first slide the spacer and top together, and then place the combined section on top of the sub using the handles.  The former method works well when placing the Sublim8 next to a stage, while the latter prevents needing to slide the top section in at about 6' in the air.
  7. How is the Sublim8 compared to other BASSBOSS rigs?
    1. In essence, you should expect around the performance of 1x SSP118 and 1x DV12.  The Sublim8 features the same compression driver and horn as the DV12, but its midrange consists of 2x 8" drivers instead of the DV12's single 12" driver.  See Sublim8 vs other BASSBOSS Products for more details.
  8. Can I place the top section on the sub without the spacer, for shorter deployment?
    1. No, due to the space needed for the cable connectors, you cannot operate the unit with the top placed directly on the sub (with no spacer).  We are making a shorter spacer for deployment with seated audiences and on stages, and are working on other accessories that will permit even an shorter total height.
  9. How does the Sublim8 keep from coming apart when in operation?
    1. When the cables (lighting and/or speaker) between the sub and top are connected, the connectors themselves prevent the Sublim8 pieces from sliding apart and falling down.  If sound is coming out of the Sublim8, it will not come apart!
  10. Why is the Sublim8 so expensive?
    1. The Sublim8 features premium components: it is made of baltic birch plywood, features loudspeaker drivers with neodymium magnets and large voice coils, and includes a high power 4,000W amplifier.  It also comes with covers and a transport cart, all of which increase the initial cost.  The Sublim8 is a total turnkey system with premium sound quality and massive SPL.  Unlike other column-style loudspeakers, there are no compromises with the Sublim8, and it shows when you hear it.  The Sublim8 is a more cost-effective option than purchasing a comparable system like an SSP118 and DV12 before considering the cost of transport carts and covers.  Furthermore, the additional space and effort saved using the Sublim8 as a lighting stand adds to the value.  Every customer is different and it is up to them to decide whether it makes sense financially to purchase the Sublim8.
  11. Why is the Sublim8 only rated at 133dBSPL (when the Evolve 90 is rated at 134dBSPL)?
    1. At BASSBOSS, we are conservative with our specifications so they represent continuous, real-world values, not "peak" nonsense that the speaker can only do for a millisecond.  One should know a bit how these numbers are arrived at when attempting to compare different speakers based on their specification sheets (i.e. is the number from an actual measurement or a theoretical value, was the measurement ground plane or free space, etc).   Outside of an actual measurement, these numbers can be next to useless at determining what a speaker is capable of and which is louder.  To be able to accurately compare the output level of the Sublim8 with other products, one should ideally take measurements of each product in the same location under the same conditions.  For example, we have no idea how EV arrived at 134dBSPL for the Evolve 90, and have not gotten a chance to place a unit in front of a microphone to make a direct comparison.
