A: PredictBASS is primarily for our customers who want to understand how the placement of subwoofers affects the response at different spots around a room.
Q: Who is PredictBASS for?
A: PredictBASS is for DJs, Bands, Live Sound Engineers, and Production Companies who want to get a better understanding of how bass "works" in different spaces and how the placement of subwoofers affects the sound at various spots in the room. We hope our customers can use it to get a better understanding of how sound works, allowing them to position their BASSBOSS products for maximum physicality.
Q: What platforms is PredictBASS available for?
A: You can download PredictBASS for Mac and Windows computers.
Q: What does PredictBASS simulate?
A: PredictBASS simulates the frequency response from the direct sound of different sources and the reflected paths of lower frequencies. It does not calculate diffraction due to small openings like doorways which can act as a resonator.
Q: Can I use PredictBASS for top speakers as well?
A: No, currently PredictBASS only works for simulating low frequencies. We may look into simulating top boxes as well, but we have yet to announce it at this time.
Q: Do I need to own BASSBOSS products to use PredictBASS?
A: No, anyone can download the software free of charge.
Q: Can I predict the response of speakers from another manufacturer in PredictBASS?
A: Currently, only BASSBOSS products are available for simulation in PredictBASS. This is because we measured all our boxes under the same conditions to ensure they were consistent with our calculations. Because we do not have access to measurements under the same conditions, we cannot predict with accuracy how other manufacturers’ boxes will interact with BASSBOSS products. However even if you are not using BASSBOSS products, you can still use PredictBASS to gain an intuition for how low frequencies work in a room and see how different placements of your subwoofers could sound.
Q: How accurate is PredictBASS?
A: PredictBASS is more accurate than most other sound prediction software because it calculates the direct paths of different sound sources, interactions between sources, and reflections from surfaces. However it is not 100% accurate, both due to the finite nature of any simulation, the nuances of a real space like the material of different walls, and the fact that we are not calculating diffraction (which is prohibitive computationally). Our goal is to give users suggestions of where they can place their speakers which is “good enough” to be helpful without spending hours rendering each frame. The accuracy of the simulation depends on some factors, from temperature and humidity to the number of people inside the room.
