Wiring and Setup Guide for BASSBOSS MK3 Subs + Tops
This article explains how to wire up combinations of several BASSBOSS subs + tops for maximum performance!
2 Subs, 2 Tops:
A 2 sub, 2 top combo makes for a great stereo system. The subs can either be placed together in the middle of the room for maximum impact, or they can be spaced out to the sides provide a solid base for your tops. This guide applies whether you are using two single driver subs (like an SSP118 or VS21) or two double driver subs (like a ZV28 or Makara).
While you will get the best acoustic performance locating all your subwoofers together (ratchet-strapping them to one another will further allow them to work together acoustically), it is more common to space your subs out to avoid needing speaker tripods for your tops. A BASSBOSS subwoofer works as a solid base to secure a top via a speaker pole, and cannot be tripped or knocked over as easily. With left-right subs, you also can get a more consistent SPL across the frontal plane of the audience, at the expense of cancellations at some frequencies depending on the spacing between the subs. The wiring guide below shows our recommended way of wiring two tops and subs together.
Notes:
- If you are using two double-driver subs, you should place each sub on it's own circuit to avoid tripping a breaker!
1 Sub, 2 Tops:
While we recommend having more subwoofers than tops due to the demands of modern music (you can read more about this
here), there are times when space, transportation, or power constraints necessitate using a single subwoofer with two tops. The wiring guide below applies for using a single or double driver subwoofer with two BASSBOSS tops:
Notes:
- It does not matter whether you wire the sub on the left or right. It makes more sense to place your sub in a corner, if possible.
- We recommend keeping both of your tops on the same preset to avoid phase cancellations with your subwoofer.
- You will likely need to turn your tops down (using the gain knob on the rear of the box) to achieve a good balance when using only one subwoofer.
