Adding more BASSBOSS Tops for more SPL

Adding more BASSBOSS Tops for more SPL

Many people ask if they can increase the SPL of their BASSBOSS Tops by adding more.  There are pros and cons do doing this, and due to the small wavelengths corresponding to higher frequencies that your tops produce, you often run into the dreaded phenomenon of "comb filtering."  Some of our tops, like the DV12, are designed to array in a fashion where you get a true doubling (+6dB) increase in volume.  Others, like the AT212, provide SPL benefits when arraying, but in practice you will only see a +3dB increase in volume (with that said, the AT212 is already much louder than 2x DV12s).  Other tops, like the AT312 and SV9, were not designed to array at all.  The rest of this article explains the compromises with combining non-arrayable tops like the AT312's and SV9:
  1. If you love the stereo imaging, adding another pair would not help.
  2. If you love the flat frequency response, adding another pair would not help.
  3. If you want to create a surround system, adding another pair would help!
  4. If you want to create a 4-corners dance floor, adding another pair would help.
  5. If you need a delayed pair to extend your coverage, adding another pair would help.
  6. If you want to add SPL, just add subs and use preset 8. You'll get a better overall result than adding more tops.  Or you can upgrade to a more powerful top.
